Washing & Detangling

We recommend washing your extensions frequently to ensure that they are hydrated and moisturised.

Depending on how often you wear your extensions, this could look like once a week if you are wearing them every day, or once every couple of weeks if you aren’t wearing them often.

Blow-out

Our blow-out range is currently the easiest to wash and detangle and doesn’t require much handling. Start by simply filling a basin with warm water, submerge the ponytail in the water and add your shampoo. It is best practice to use a moisturising yet clarifying shampoo for texture hair to ensure that the product is being removed effectively without stripping out too much moisture.

After shampooing, rinse and add your conditioner. At this point, you can use your fingers or a comb to detangle very gently. There may be some shed hairs, but this should not be excessive if done with care. Following this, rinse the conditioner and dry the ponytail in a t-shirt or non fibre cloth. Pat drying your extensions in this way will minimise friction and is much more gentle on the hair.

At this point, you can choose to air dry, or blow dry (without comb attachment). Once semi-dry, add your favourite serum. We love Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-frizz Serum. Check out our video for a demonstration on how to wash our ‘Essential’ Blow-out ponytail

Afro Kinky Range

Our Afro Kinky range is a kin to 4C natural hair and require a little more delicacy. When washing this hair, one must ask what is the goal i am trying to achieve, is it cleansed hair or definition. This is important because it will determine the steps you take. If the answer is simply to cleanse the hair, then it is our recommendation that you finger detangle only. We recommend this to minimise shedding and because it is possible to effectively detangle this hair with fingers if washing regularly.

If washing the clip ins, we recommend washing each piece seperately. Start by simply filling a basin with warm water, submerge the ponytail or clips in the water and add your shampoo. It is best practice to use a moisturising yet clarifying shampoo for textured hair to ensure that the product is being removed effectively without stripping out too much moisture.

After shampooing, rinse and add your conditioner. At this point, you can use your fingers to detangle very gently. When detangling start at the tips and slowly work your way up the hair toward the weft. There may be some shed hairs, but this should not be excessive if done with care.

Following this, rinse the conditioner and dry the hair in a t-shirt or micro fibre cloth. Pat drying your extensions in this way will minimise friction and is much more gentle on the hair.

At this point, with our afro kinky hair we recommend air drying or you can choose to wear as a ‘wash-and-go’. With this hair we recommend adding a leave-in conditioner will wet and sealing with your favourite oil. You can also use Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-frizz Serum. Once dry, your extensions should be fairly defined, if you want to go back to the ‘afro’ look, simply spritz generously with water and leave-in mix and brush out softly.
